HELLO!!!!!!!!!!! IM FINALLY SUBMITTING SOMETHING AGAIN! EVERYONE APPLAUD FOR ME!!!

boy did i really have to set aside TIME for this! i just felt so guilty not submitting anything un-school-related for so long! man!!! but this was fun. now on the official description.

as you can see, im trying a different style yet again! i mentioned before that i was growing weary of my bold outlines and insanely clean, perfect coloring style. now that i have discovered the wonders of watercolour, i decided to do a part watercolour, part digital art piece!

the background (ship, tentacle, plus the sea) was done using regular watercolours, the kind with 12 basic colours. i then used coloured pencils to add more contrast: purples, blues, and browns for the shadows, and white for highlights.

davy jones, the treasure chest, and the sand were coloured digitally. byebye super clean and neat shadows. this time i wanted to mimick the blendy, watercolour effect using a combination of the hard and soft brush tools. this is totally a new style and experience for me, and i rather enjoyed the process!

im satisfied with everything but the treasure chest. i still think it's too clean...plus i put the light on the wrong side. oops.

so yeah! here is davy jones! im thinking of entering this in the disney villain contest over at

references:
background + treasure chest = copied from the bottom of pirates of the caribbean 2 poster
davy jones = used a picture of a davy jones collectible toy as a guide

I think this is GREAT! I love how you mixed the two mediums so well.

(One tip: lobsters only turn bright red after being boiled.)

Abbe Faria: It doesn't matter. He believes in you.

AW MAN XDD This is cool.

Though... This somehow reminded me of that "His Noodly Appendage" thing from Uncyclopedia.
